With less than 150 days until the 2024 Elections, It’s hard for me to articulate how important this cycle actually is. I suppose I could start with the electorate as a whole. You see, I’ve been around a bit and can say with some certainty, that there’s a significant number of voters out there who don’t know their history and who need, shall we say, a little schooling in the civics disciplines. Now there’s also something to be said for the continuing failures of the public school system and so called “higher education”, but that’s an in-depth conversation for another day. Suffice it to say, I can’t remember an election in which so many folks have had their collective heads up their you know whats…
History tells us that this happens as freedom, and the knowledge of its true origins, passes from one generation to the next and becomes diluted. And it’s not just freedom some now take for granted, but the very values and tenets that got us, (We the People) to this point. Without that crucial understand and respect for what sets us apart from the rest of the world, it becomes increasingly more difficult to maintain and secure the blessings of liberty.
So on the one hand, I’m encouraged when I see things like President Trump’s rally in the Bronx after the sham trial in Manhattan. It tells me that real Americans are paying attention, and that they’re tired of the same old political pandering and race baiting they’ve been hammered with for so many years.
On the other hand, the 2020 Election is looking more and more like the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on a free people besides COVID, exposing a “swamp’ like evil I believe many of us knew was always there. Moreover, watching the weaponization of so many of our federal entities/agencies for the purpose of persecuting political opponents, is beyond troubling. Especially when I’ve dedicated a good portion of my life to law and order, respecting those very same entities/agencies as partners and parties to the cause of equal justice under the law.
So I guess I’m just suffering from a bit of election anxiety today, and thinking about my baby granddaughters America. Is it over? Are we done? Look, I refuse to believe those brave souls who fought and died in our stead did so for nothing. I also refuse to believe the Founders got it wrong when they chose liberty over tyranny, and fought a revolution over that choice. And lastly, I absolutely refuse to believe the two most consequential documents ever penned by the hand of man, with the exception only of the Holy Bible, were not inspired by God Himself, and thus meant to be.
So I will fight on, and do what I can to preserve the republic Ben Franklin spoke of on the steps of Independence Hall in Philadelphia in September of 1787, saying when asked by Elizabeth Willing Powel: “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” “A republic Madam, if you can keep it.”
