For the second time in as many months someone has tried to kill Donald Trump. How have we gotten here? What has changed so significantly in America that some people are now so consumed by hate, they’ed want to shoot a former president who’s running to be president again, and who never personally injured them?

Well it’s easy to see but difficult to fathom how far and how quickly our republic has fallen. In the simplest of terms, “We the People” have become lazy. We’ve adopted a posture of complacency and reckless abandon disguised as tolerance and progress, thus allowing the poisons of socialism and communism to take root in our schools and in our halls of government. Historical revisionism and a hopelessly bias news media have now elevated the “”Rules for Radicals” philosophy to a place of legitimacy and compromised an entire way of life. It is in these environments the Thomas Mathew Crooks and the Ryan W. Routh’s fester in their ignorance and anger, basically hiding in plain sight until they lose hold of what little sense they have and lash out violently.

In the end, it’s not about what happened in Butler or Palm Beach, but why. Unfortunately, only collective self-examination of what is truth, and what is an alternate reality that allows one to see things only in the light necessary to satisfy their own ideological beliefs, will heal this republic. Anything short of that will simply fuel this spiral into chaos. As for 45, I think it’s fair to say we haven’t seen this kind of “in your face” and selfless bravery since Reagan, and possibly even Washington. God please bless Donald J. Trump and his family.
